  State of the Schools

Each fall, District 21 hosts its annual State of the Schools meetings. There are three meetings – one at each of the middle schools. Parents and community members are invited to attend any of these meetings.

Each State of the Schools officially begins at 7.00 PM. Dr. Gary Mical, District 21's Superintendent, begins the evening with opening remarks and an accompanying video highlighting important elements of our Professional Learning Community.

Following Dr. Mical's remarks, there will be individual, more specific topical presentations being offered. These will be offered during two 25-minute breakout sessions, and parents and community members may choose which of these sessions they attend.

This year's breakout sessions include:
- Myth Busters: Truth and Consequences of NCLB
- Science Snapshot: A Glimpse into the World of Elementary Scientists
- Developing Your Child's Habits for Success in School, Life, and Work
- Developing Critical Thinkers
- Internet Safety
- Bullying

Past topics have included:
- District 21's Finances
- Restructuring of the Bilingual Program
- Food Service Program
- The Updated 3rd through 5th Grade Report Card
- Special Education Overview
- Gifted (G.A.T.E.) Program Overview
- Measures of Academic Progress Overview

In these breakout sessions, you will be able to ask questions and provide input.

Babysitting is also provided by each middle school. If you require babysitting for that evening, please call 847-520-2728 and record the date you plan to attend, the number of children you will be bringing, and their ages.

All parents and community members are encouraged to attend any of the three State of the Schools meetings.
