Chromebook 2013-2014 Roll-out

During the 2013-2014 school year, middle school students throughout School District 21 will launch the rollout of School District 21’s One-to-One (1:1) Student-Device deployment. These new tools will allow students to connect with the most up-to-date information as they engage in the study of the School District 21 Curriculum Frameworks, and with access to the Internet, students will not only be able to learn from a much wider variety of sources, but they will be able to share their learning and solutions to current problems in our community and world with others.

The Chromebooks will be distributed throughout the 2013-2014 school year by grade levels across School District 21’s three middle schools. For many years, School District 21 teachers and staff members have been working to provide students with more engaging and authentic learning opportunities. Over the past three years, the Learning21 Principles and Inclusionary Practices have been key Areas of Focus for all staff members in School District 21. Both of these Areas of Focus are enhanced significantly when students have access to the resources of the Internet and the power of collaboration with students and teachers within Google Apps.

Chromebooks will initially be distributed to eighth graders on the following schedule:

• Holmes Middle School 8th Graders – Beginning October 16th
• London Middle School 8th Graders – Beginning October 28th
• Cooper Middle School 8th Graders – Beginning November 4th

Following the end of First Trimester and Thanksgiving Weekend, seventh graders will receive their Chromebooks.

• London Middle School 7th Graders – Beginning November 30th
• Cooper Middle School 7th Graders – Beginning December 6th
• Holmes Middle School 7th Graders – Beginning December 13th

The sixth graders will receive their Chromebooks during second trimester in February.

• Cooper Middle School 6th Graders – Beginning February 3rd
• Holmes Middle School 6th Graders – Beginning February 10th
• London Middle School 6th Graders – Beginning February 18th

Upon receiving their Chromebook, students will receive pertinent information and additional information will be sent home to parents.
