CCSD21 Absence Management Support
Becoming a Substitute
To serve as a substitute teacher in CCSD21, first, one must obtain authorization from the Regional Office of Education. For CCSD21, this is the North Cook Intermediate Service Center in Des Plaines. With that authorization in hand, a substitute can be added to the CCSD21 Sub List after attending the mandated annual Substitute Orientation Meeting.
Long-term substitutes are typically selected by school principals in conjunction with the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. These selections occur outside of Absence Management, which is still used for recording staff absences and substitute work-days in the case of long-term assignments. For specific positions, other CCSD21 administrators assist in the hiring of long-term substitutes.
Absence Management Information
Absence Management (formerly AESOP), owned by Frontline Placement Technologies, is an “Automated Substitute Placement & Absence Management” system. It can be accessed by permanent School District 21 staff members as well as by substitutes both online and via the telephone. All School District 21 absences are recorded through this system, and nearly all substitute teacher requests are fulfilled through this system.
Absence Management Launched in CCSD21
Absence Management “went live” in District 21 on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Calls for substitute assignments are no longer made by the CCSD21 Sub Caller.
Absence Management Login Information
CCSD21 staff and substitutes are assigned login information by Absence Management. The default username is a staff member’s 10-digit phone number with no punctuation (e.g., 8471234567), and the PIN is a four or five digit number. The PIN is assigned by Absence Management by default, but it can (and should) be changed by each staff member and substitute during the user’s initial login.
Absence Management Basic Training
The CCSD21 Absence Management Support Site provides all of the resources that staff members and substitutes alike need to be successful with the system. Absence Management is now the only way for CCSD21 staff members to report an absence, and it is the only way for substitutes to connect with available positions. This website will continue to be updated as new features are added and new questions arise. As we begin our use of Absence Management, we feature the following support videos:
Absence Management Tech Tip–Never use the “Back” button!
When working within Absence Management, only use the “Save” or “Cancel” buttons within the website. Do not use the “Back” button in the top of the web browser as this may not allow the website to function properly. Should you need to get back to your Absence Management Home, click the “Home” link on the top of any page in Absence Management (pictured below inside the yellow oval).
