Representatives from School District 21 attended the Alliance Leadership Summit in late February to advocate for equitable school funding and strong public schools.

The two-day Summit offered break-out sessions and general session speakers where attendees learned about proposed adjustments to the school funding formula, and other potential legislation that could impact funding of schools, like a property tax freeze or pension cost-shift.

The District’s delegation to Springfield included Board of Education President Bill Harrison, Board of Education member Phil Pritzker (who also serves as President of the Illinois Association of School Boards), Superintendent Kate Hyland, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Mary Werling, and Cooper Middle School Principal Robert Gurney.

More than 250 of Illinois’ school districts were represented by 463 attendees.
