CCSD21 signs on to “Pass Illinois’ Budget” initiative

April 25, 2017

Topic: Finance & Policy

Dr. Kate Hyland is one of more than 400 school superintendents across Illinois calling on the governor and state legislators to pass a state budget. Illinois has been operating without a state budget for 22 months and, as such, CCSD21 has not yet received more than $3.6 million in mandated categorical payments from the state. Mandated categorical funding includes state payments that support special education, bilingual education, transportation, and other important services.

The superintendents who have signed on to the “Pass Illinois’ Budget” initiative represent more than 1.35 million Illinois students and are urging Springfield to:

  • immediately, and with bipartisan support, end the state budget impasse.
  • improve the state’s education funding formula and invest in students and schools, including higher education institutions, throughout the state.
  • pay school districts what they are owed this year.

Support this effort by contacting your state lawmakers and asking them to prioritize action on the three items above. Find your legislators here. A social media campaign using #PassILBudget is also underway. Post on your social networks using the hashtag to advocate for adequate and equitable funding for our schools.
