Students from Holmes Middle School recently visited Springfield to share with legislators how the use of technology transforms their learning experience. The visit was part of the 2017 Illinois Tech Conference.

“Through the use of technology, students are deeply engaged in their learning and are inspired to take action to improve their world,” said Martin Hopkins, Principal of Holmes Middle School. “We appreciate the time our elected officials took to visit with our students and learn about their experiences.”

The Holmes team showed how Chromebooks, virtual reality headsets and Skype brought to life the history and current conflicts in the Middle East. Students connected with New York Times Magazine journalist Scott Anderson, both in person and virtually, who helped connect life in the Middle East with the students’ experiences.

Nearly 400 Illinois students participated in the conference.
