Planning for 2021-2022 school year

As families look to the fall and begin thinking about the start of the new school year, a few reminders:

First day

The first day of school for students in grades 1-8 is Wednesday, August 18. The first day of school for students in kindergarten and pre-k is Thursday, August 19.

School supplies

All students will be provided a set of common school supplies at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. Families may choose to purchase additional supplies for their student’s use at home or school, but all necessary supplies will be provided by School District 21 in the fall and replenished later in the year. The CCSD21-provided school supply list for students entering grades K-8 can be found here. As always all PreK classrooms will be stocked with the supplies and materials students need to participate in learning throughout the year.

Student fees

School District 21 will continue to provide a “fee holiday” for all district students for the 2021-2022 school year. All fees associated with student registration, like the cost of instructional materials, digital learning devices, physical education uniforms, and device protection plan, will be eliminated for the coming school year.

COVID-19 mitigations

CCSD21 continues to await guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Department of Public Health on our learning environment and possible COVID mitigations for the coming year. As we prepare for the return to school, please consider the following:

Share your child’s completed vaccination card with CCSD21 following their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

• Email a scanned copy or photo of the vaccine card to [email protected].
• Visit any middle school during our card collection day on Wednesday, July 14:
  • Cooper: 8:30 – 10:30 AM
  • London: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Holmes: 1:30 – 3:30 PM
• Visit any CCSD21 school on or after Monday, July 26, between 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

Vaccinate all eligible members of your family against COVID-19.

Receiving a vaccine is safe and free, and protects against severe illness. Make an appointment today! A recent CDC study reported that hospitalization rates for COVID-19 among adolescents increased during March and April after initially decreasing in early 2021. This report comes as data show that the newest delta variant of COVID-19 is highly transmissible, especially among 12-20 year olds. Children age 12 and older are eligible to receive the two-dose Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. In order to be fully vaccinated (two weeks after the second vaccine dose) by the first day of school, Wednesday, August 18, eligible students would need to receive their first vaccine by Wednesday, July 14.
