Referendum informational meetings scheduled for Sept. 24, 25

Topic: Finance & Policy

School District 21 is inviting its residents to two upcoming town hall meetings to share information and answer questions on the referendum question on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The information sessions will be held on Monday, Sept. 24 at London Middle School, and Tuesday, Sept. 25 at Cooper Middle School. Both sessions will begin at 7 PM. Following a brief presentation, attendees will be invited to ask questions.

The CCSD21 Board of Education voted in August to place a $69 million bond referendum question on the November ballot. Funds would be used to enhance site security at all CCSD21 facilities, to include the reconfiguration of building entrances to three-point secure entrances. Currently, visitors pass through just one or two checkpoints before gaining access to the schools’ hallways and classrooms.

With voter approval, other projects include installation of security cameras and enhanced exterior lighting, installation of air conditioning in all buildings, and the preparation of physical spaces to offer full-day kindergarten districtwide.
