The Community Consolidated School District 21 Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday to approve a new four-year contract between the Board and the District 21 Education Association (D21EA). The agreement was approved by D21EA members with 70 percent voting in support.

“I appreciate the passion, thoughtfulness, and commitment of our staff members in their service to School District 21,” said Dr. Kate Hyland, CCSD21 Superintendent. “The mutual respect and concern expressed at the negotiating table by the D21EA leaders and membership underscore the high regard held for our staff, community, and the future of our students and the district.”

The new contract exemplifies the dedication of the negotiating teams to forge an agreement that benefits all stakeholders in the district – staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members. Among other items, the negotiating teams’ work centered on staff members’ total compensation package, including salary and benefits. Staff members will see a 3.25% salary increase in each of the first two years of the contract, while agreeing to new insurance options for all employees. The terms of the new contract represent an anticipated savings of 3.6% of operating fund expenditures as compared to the terms of the current contract.

“The strong relationship and mutual respect shared between our union and administration is the foundation for collaborative, productive dialogue that results in a contract benefitting all stakeholders,” said Phil Pritzker, CCSD21 Board of Education President.

The new contract is effective August 1, 2018, through July 31, 2022.
