2019 Summer Professional Development

Throughout the school year, staff members across School District 21 take responsibility for their own ongoing learning through both structured and unstructured learning opportunities. Each summer, there are a variety of formal professional development opportunities available to CCSD21 staff members.

Elementary Teaming Retreat

Target audience: Elementary school teachers

More Information

Description: Please join us for a day of cross-district curriculum exploration, sharing and planning. Participants will have a choice of content areas and topics to explore in the morning: math, social studies, language and literacy, health, and technology integration. They will also delve into the science curriculum and explore our new science curriculum resource, Mystery Science. The afternoon will involve conversations about the social emotional learning curriculum and learner qualities as well as team planning time. Teachers can attend as a team from their school or team up with teachers from other schools. Teachers are welcome to attend all day or just the morning or afternoon.

Attendance: Attendance is expected for teachers new to the district. For teachers returning to the district, attendance is voluntary but encouraged. Attendees will be paid.

DRA2/EDL2

Target audience: PK-8 instructional staff who support literacy

Description: Join us to learn how to accurately administer and score the DRA2/EDL2 (Developmental Reading Assessment®/ Evaluación del desarrollo de la lectura®). Learn strategies for organizing the assessment and utilizing other resources to support instruction based on assessment results.

Description: Learn more about the Lucy Calkins’ Writing Units of Study program. Participants will learn how to utilize the Writing Units of Study to effectively implement our CCSD21 Language Arts Frameworks and how the resource supports a cohesive PK-8 sequence for teaching and assessing the writing power standards.

Target audience: PreK Staff: classroom teachers, teacher assistants, and integrated services (SLPs, OTs, SW, Psych).

Description: “Participants will increase knowledge of accommodations and supports that foster access, independence and engagement for diverse learners; apply Universal Design for Learning Principles to include appropriate supports in emotional regulation, communication, visual structure and organization; receive overview in IEP process for Special Education in PK.

Description: Join us for an exciting, fun-filled day of technology learning presented by CCSD21 teachers and staff. Experience a conference-style setting and choose your sessions based on personal interest and technology learning goals. Learn new skills, or dive deeper into resources and strategies you’d like to know more about. This Mini-Con will be hands-on, with time allotted to work and create in a supported environment.

Tech Time for New Teammates

Target audience: New staff.

More Information

Description: After signing a contract, all new licensed staff members will participate in a technology training. During this time, staff members will receive a staff laptop and associated accessories, participate in basic training about their staff laptop and how it functions, review District policy related to the staff laptop, receive a CCSD21 Google Apps for Education account and email address, and more.

Attendance: Attendance at this new staff orientation event is expected of licensed staff new to the district.
