Certified Medical Assistant

Gabriela Mancera is a Certified Medical Assistant at the District 21 Health Center. With a strong background in pediatric care, Gabriela brings kindness, patience, and compassion to each visit, helping children feel safe and supported during their time at the clinic.

She has several years of experience working in both pediatric primary and specialty care settings, where she has gained expertise in taking vitals, administering immunizations, performing point-of-care testing, supporting providers during procedures, and ensuring families feel informed and cared for. Her calm and gentle approach makes her a valuable part of the care team, especially when working with children who may be nervous or scared.

Gabriela completed her Medical Assistant Program at First Institute in Libertyville and is certified through the National Healthcareer Association and the American Heart Association. She is passionate about providing high-quality care while building trust with patients and their families.

 

PERSONAL INTERESTS & HOBBIES

Gabriela enjoys playing soccer and has previously coached her daughter’s soccer team. She also loves spending time with her close-knit family, especially her four siblings, parents and daughter.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO INTO HEALTH CARE?
“I’ve always loved helping people and have a special place in my heart for caring for kids. I enjoy supporting them through their fears and making sure they feel comfortable. It’s important to me that children leave feeling safe and cared for.”

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
“I love working with kids and being part of making their health care experience as positive as possible. It means a lot to me when I can help a child feel more at ease during a visit—whether that’s offering a smile, a distraction, or just being patient and kind. I also really enjoy connecting with families and supporting them throughout the visit.”

WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
“My daughter—being her mom is my greatest accomplishment.”

WHAT’S SOMETHING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT YOU?
“Even though I work in health care, I can be a bit of a scaredy-cat! I don’t do well with scary movies or heights—but I’m great at staying calm when my patients are nervous.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COMFORT FOOD?
“Chile Rellenos—a traditional Mexican dish made from roasted poblano peppers stuffed with cheese.”
