Summer Programming
Make this summer unforgettable with District 21! Our wide range of summer programs offers students the chance to learn, create, stay active, and make new friends in a safe and supportive environment.
All of our summer programming is provided to families at no cost.
June: Art & Design Academy
A one-week camp where students explore art and design through engaging projects and creative practices. Activities are grouped by grade level to ensure age-appropriate learning and skill development.
- Dates: Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12, 2026
- Open to: Current kindergarten through seventh-grade students
- Student Hours: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (half-day program)
- Location: Twain Elementary School (515 E. Merle Lane, Wheeling)

June: Sports & Fitness Academy
A one-week camp focused on sports, games, and activities that promote fitness, fun, and teamwork. Students are grouped by grade level to maximize engagement and skill-building.
- Dates: Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12, 2026
- Open to: Current kindergarten through seventh-grade students
- Student Hours: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (half-day program)
- Location: Tarkington Elementary School (310 Scott Street, Wheeling)

June: STEM Camp
A one-week camp, in partnership with Wheeling High School, offering hands-on STEM activities and interactive lessons. Students are grouped by grade level to ensure projects and challenges match their learning level and curiosity.
- Dates: Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12, 2026
- Open to: Current kindergarten through seventh-grade students
- Student Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. (full-day program)
- Location: Holmes Middle School (221 S. Wolf Road, Wheeling)

July: Summer Learning Academy & Newcomers (By Invitation Only)
A three-week summer course designed to support students who need extra help in language arts and math. Students also engage in special area experiences for a well-rounded summer. Newcomer students receive focused support to build English language skills and confidence. Students who qualify for this program will receive information in early spring 2026.
July: Extended School Year (By Invitation Only)
Provides students with an extension of the school year to maintain and reinforce skills outlined in their IEP. ESY ensures continued growth and learning over the summer in a supportive, individualized environment. Students who qualify for ESY will receive information about the program in early spring 2026.
August: Performing Music Academy
A jumpstart to the year’s music programs, this camp welcomes current fourth- through seventh-grade orchestra students, current fifth- through seventh-grade band students, and current fifth graders (rising to sixth grade) with an interest in chorus. Students will develop musical skills, participate in ensembles, and prepare for a successful year in District 21’s music programs.
- Dates: Monday, August 10 – Friday, August 14, 2026
- Open to: Current fifth- through seventh-grade band students; current fourth- through seventh-grade orchestra students; current fifth graders (rising to sixth grade) with an interest in chorus
- Student Hours:
- Jazz Band – 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
- Orchestra and Band – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Chorus – 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
