Dear CCSD21 families,

As you know, School District 21 scheduled the four Fridays in April as Distance Learning Planning Days. On these days, students were given learning activities while staff engaged in meetings, planning, and professional development, and were not available to respond to students and parents.

At this time, the State allows school districts to use five Planning Days. As a reminder, our fifth Planning Day will be held this Friday, May 1.

Curbside pick-up of student items
Staff members will have access to our buildings in the coming weeks to pack up student materials left in classrooms and lockers. The number of staff members allowed in the building each day will be limited and staff will follow strict social distancing guidelines.

Student materials (from classrooms, hallway lockers, and gym lockers) will be packed up and labeled. Families are invited to pick up their children’s materials during the following windows. Your school principal may be in touch in the coming days with further guidance and direction for curbside pick-up:

  • Saturday, May 16, 10 AM – 2 PM
  • Monday, May 18, 10 AM – 2 PM
  • Tuesday, May 19, 10 AM – 2 PM
  • Wednesday, May 20, 4 PM – 7 PM

Families should drive to school. Walk-up distribution is not available at this time. As families approach the school during these pick-up times, please display a sign in your car window with the following information for EVERY student:

  • Student first and last name
  • Grade level
  • Teacher (elementary school) or Team (middle school)

For your safety and the safety of our staff, families shall NOT get out of their car when they arrive at school. Staff members will bring student items out to the car and place items directly in the trunk.

Curbside return of library books and 8th grade Chromebooks

If your child has books checked out from the school library that need to be returned, please place these items in your trunk before leaving your home. Staff members will collect these items from your trunk when you arrive at school.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students can keep books from their teacher’s classroom library over the summer and will return them when we return to school in person.

Eighth grade students will return their Chromebooks after the last day of school. Details about this process will be shared in the coming weeks. Students in all other grade levels will keep their Chromebooks and other learning materials over the summer.

Thank you.

Dr. Michael Connolly
