My Why - Kenny Munao, Communications Intern

Topic: My Why

Hello, my name is Kenny Munao and I am a senior at Prospect High School. I just started as an intern this summer with Community Consolidated School District 21. I have always had a passion for storytelling from elementary to high school. Before high school, this was just a way to stay busy. I would wake up in the morning before school to eat breakfast and instead of watching cartoons, I would put on the news (lame, I know). As I went from my freshman to sophomore year, I didn’t realize what this interest in storytelling could become. I was placed into the “Intro to Multimedia” class by accident instead of “Intro to 3D Art.” I wasn’t too excited, to say the least. Then the school year started and opportunities started to rise. I found my true love in the world of journalism — sports commentating. Growing up, I saw commentators like Al Micheals and Hawk Harrelson as movie stars. It had been my dream without even knowing it. While this is my favorite part of the field, I also love to be able to tell stories through pictures as well as video as it can be even more challenging than just using words.

In the future, I hope to have the opportunity to combine my passion for communications. I want to be able to commentate games but also throw together video packages and write articles. My dream is to be in the booth for the Super Bowl one day.

I wanted to intern for District 21 to get real-world experience in media and make more content for people to see. I haven’t been here for long but I already feel a part of the tight-knit community that is District 21.
