Julie Shaver will join Field Elementary School as its new principal, effective July 1.
Winnie Clausell will rejoin the district as the new principal of Twain Elementary School, effective July 1.
Jonathan Sanchez will join Riley Elementary School as its new assistant principal, effective July 1.
The Community Consolidated School District 21 Board of Education on May 16 voted unanimously to appoint new principals for Field and Twain Elementary Schools, along with a new assistant principal for Riley Elementary School.
Julie Shaver will join Field in the principal role as of July 1, succeeding Crystal Jimenez, who stepped down from the position after four years. Shaver has spent the past two years serving as an assistant principal in Kildeer Countryside School District 96. She was an elementary literacy coach and teacher in the district prior to that.
In recommending her approval, district administrators said Shaver distinguished herself “as a student-centered, engaged and caring educator.”
“I am both honored and thrilled to begin my journey as the new principal of Field,” Shaver said. “I am looking forward to collaborating with the dedicated staff, supportive parents and wonderful students to create a nurturing and inspiring learning environment.”
Winnie Clausell is set to assume the principal role at Twain as of July 1, succeeding Dr. Alyssa Shapiro, who was promoted to director of multi-tiered systems of support. Clausell rejoins CCSD21 also from Kildeer, where she spent two years as an assistant principal. She previously served as director of K-8 literacy in Niles Township District 219, and prior to that was a coach and teacher for 15 years in multiple schools throughout CCSD21.
In recommending her approval, district administrators said Clausell’s experiences in the district as a teacher and coach, along with her director and assistant principal experience, “has set her up for success in this new role.”
“As I step into the role of principal, I’m thrilled to rejoin CCSD21 and the dynamic community at Twain,” Clausell said. “What excites me most is the opportunity to foster growth, inclusivity and achievement. I invite every member of our school family to join me in shaping a future where diversity is celebrated, curiosity is kindled, and excellence is pursued with dedication.”
Clausell added that returning to the district is a “homecoming,” and was eager to collaborate, face new challenges and celebrate achievements.
Jonathan Sanchez will join Riley as its new assistant principal, effective July 1. He succeeds Melissa Mariconda, who was recently one of three promoted to student services coordinators. Sanchez joins the Rams from the North Cook Young Adult Academy, where he served as an assistant principal for student supports. He was a special education teacher at Evanston Township High School District 202 and Nichols Middle School in Evanston/Skokie Community Consolidated School District 65 prior to that.
In recommending his approval, district administrators said Sanchez “stood out” as someone who strongly values relationships with staff, students and families. Further, his strong background in special education will be a huge asset to Riley and the special education programs housed within it.
“First and foremost, it’s an honor and a privilege to be provided the opportunity to become a part of this fantastic district and school,” Sanchez said. “I am excited for the opportunity to work closely with the entire Riley Elementary School community. I am looking forward to upholding the standard for excellence that currently exists and creating additional spaces where students, families and staff feel heard, seen and supported at all times. Students have and will always continue to be the center of my ‘Why.’ I am looking forward to hitting the ground running come July.”
