Topic: My Why

Hi, my name is Sofia Horwitz and I’m a senior at Buffalo Grove High School. I just started as an intern this summer with Community Consolidated School District 21. I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing all throughout elementary and middle school. Reading stories gave me new perspectives on the world as my favorite genre is realistic fiction. Writing on the other hand gave me the opportunity to express my thoughts and ideas in a creative way. As I entered high school, I joined an “Intro to Multimedia” class just to see what it was like. From then on, I was in love and knew that was the career path I wanted to go into. The class has opened doors for many amazing experiences such as creating infographics, yearbook design, live streaming, writing articles, and video production. I love being able to design visually appealing work while also allowing a story to come to life.

In the future, I hope to find a career that allows me to do many different things within communications but especially with graphic design. I would love to advertise and create products for big companies that I admire. A dream of mine would be to take part in a project that works with a charity organization and be able to make something that helps a group I’m passionate about.

I wanted to intern for District 21 to get some hands-on experience and see the different realms of media. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that isn’t recognized by the common eye. I can already feel the friendly and family-like environment that they have created here and I’m excited to be a part of it. I’m ready to grow and learn new skills within the field.
