Dear CCSD21 families,

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced today that the state’s mandatory school closure will extend through the end of the school year. Distance Learning will continue through our scheduled last day of school, Tuesday, June 9.

This is devastating news for our community and I share it with great sadness. While we know this decision is in the best interest of the health and safety of us all, it is still disappointing that we will not be able to return to our schools this year.

I am so proud of what our teachers, students, and families have accomplished through Distance Learning and know that quality learning will continue on until the end of our school year. While our year will end differently than we hoped we know that our entire community will stand together to support our students and each other in this difficult time.

As a district we need to answer a number of questions about our new end of year, while also developing plans which will enable parents to collect their child’s personal possessions from desks and lockers. We will be in contact with you as soon as we are able with all of those details. In the meantime, I greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.

We know this is going to be a very hard message for your children to hear. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers and principal if you need any support in helping your child cope with this new reality. For now, please hug your children, tell them we miss them, and know that we all look forward to the day when we will be together again!

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Connolly
Superintendent
