Wishing You a Safe & Happy Memorial Day

As we enter the Memorial Day Weekend, we hope that you have a wonderful holiday and as the summer season kicks off you are able to enjoy some great outdoor activities.  We are also excited for the final days of a fantastic school year and all of the end of year traditions our schools will be celebrating next week.  

We are proud that our school campuses are places that our students, families, and the community at large are able to enjoy both during and after school.  We are committed to keeping our campuses safe and inviting and rely on the support of our community to help us in that pursuit.  

In recent days, there have been instances of inappropriate or unsafe behaviors occurring on several of our campuses after dark; some causing damage and others that are highly disruptive to those residents living nearby.  

We know that as the weather warms and the school year comes to a close, children and teens are spending more time outside and away from their homes with friends, and that for many of our teens that may continue after dark.  It is after dark that we also see an increase in unsafe or disruptive behaviors.

All CCSD 21 school campuses are equipped with exterior cameras and we work closely with our local law enforcement to ensure that any disruptive, damaging, or unsafe behaviors are investigated and that those who may have engaged in those behaviors are held accountable.  

So as we head into the summer season, please take the opportunity to reinforce with your children the importance of staying safe, making good choices away from home, and respecting the neighborhoods, parks, libraries, and school grounds that the residents of our community have built and generously support.  The communities that make up CCSD 21 are truly great places to grow up and it’s important that they are safe places for all.
