Details for return to in-person school

September 25, 2020

Topic: Updates

The following message was sent through ParentSquare, the district’s notification tool, to families whose students are due to return to school in person. Parents whose children are scheduled to return to school in person, but did not receive this message, should contact their school’s main office to ensure their contact information is up to date.

Dear CCSD21 families,

You are receiving this email as your child(ren) is(are) assigned to an “in person” classroom. Last night, the Board of Education adopted the Revised Return to In-Person Schooling Plan. The Plan allows students to return to in-person learning as early as October 5, 2020.

Due to the need to maintain strict social distancing of six feet in all classrooms, the district will not be able to operate full day classes for students. Students will be assigned to in-person teams. Likewise, grade levels will initially return on a rolling basis; not all grade levels will return at once on the same day. At this time, the first days of in-person learning are:

  • Monday, October 5 – Kindergarten and Grade 1
  • Tuesday, October 6 – Pre-kindergarten and Grade 6
  • Tuesday, October 13 – Grades 2, 3, 7, 8
  • Thursday, October 15 – Grades 4, 5

Students’ in-person learning team assignment, bus route (if eligible for transportation), and final confirmation of the in-person return schedule noted above will be communicated by each school via email. Families that do not want their child(ren) to return to school in person should contact their principal to enroll in the Distance Learning Academy.

Students will continue learning virtually, or remotely, until their grade level returns in person. Though your child may return to school in person at a later date, all students’ daily schedules will change on October 5 to accommodate in-person instruction, specials/exploratories, etc. Your child’s teacher will communicate relevant details about the new schedule.

Health & Safety Requirements
All individuals at school or on a bus are required to wear a face covering at all times.

Families must also submit a certification of health for every child every school day, regardless of if the child will be physically present in school that day. An email reminder to complete the certification will be sent to the parent/guardian email address(es) on file every morning at 4:00 AM and the certification MUST be completed 30 minutes before school begins. Students showing any signs of illness, or experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, may not attend school. A student will not be allowed to enter a CCSD21 building until their health can be verified.

Expectations at school
When students return to school, their experience will be different than it may have been in the past. Videos linked here (English | Español) demonstrate common procedures at school, like arriving at school, what it may look like in classrooms, and how to complete the daily health certification.

Supervised Learning Program
Due to the limited availability of staff and facility space once in-person learning resumes, CCSD21 will be unable to continue its on-site Supervised Learning Program. Local park districts will provide alternate childcare options for the portion of the day when students are not at school. Transportation to and from the park district and the school will be provided by CCSD21 for those enrolled in the park district childcare program. As the childcare program is offered by the park districts, please contact them directly with any questions.

Thank you.
