Design21 Archive
Beginning in Fall 2017, Community Consolidated School District 21 initiated a formal community engagement process to gather feedback from the community about its priorities for our students and schools. Feedback was gathered through phone and online surveys, one-on-one and small group interviews, focus groups, and community conversations. As a result, the Design21 Action Plan was developed.
One element of the Design21 Action Plan outlined the need to consider future funding options for capital projects. Ultimately, the Board of Education placed a referendum question on the November 6, 2018, ballot. With 73% in support, the community approved the Board’s plan to issue bonds to enhance security and facilities at all sites.
The Design21 Community Engagement process, and its results, are outlined below. Current updates on the Design21 Action Plan are available here.
Background
Today’s kindergarten students will graduate high school in 2030 and be the architects of the second half of the 21st century. How can we as a community best prepare our students to assume that role? What classroom, technology, and curricular design improvements must we implement to ensure their success?
This past fall, 726 CCSD21 residents took part in our phone and online survey, conducted by Fako Research and Strategies, to share opinions and priorities of the community. This spring, we will continue that dialogue to examine the priorities identified in the survey in greater detail.
